Russia-Ukraine Live Updates: Ex US soldier captured in Ukraine says he 'did not fire shot'
At the recent summit of the "five" littoral states, Russia warned the non-Caucasia states' military against any influence in the Caspian region dominated by Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Moscow. The United States that has become a leading trade partner to several littoral states passed the 'Silk Road Act' declaring Caspian region "area of vital interest.
NATO meanwhile has maintained Partnership for Peace and regional Peacekeeping organization forces that conduct regular military exercises with the Caspian states' forces. Military units from the national peacekeeping battalions of NATO and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as a US battalion have been expanding cooperation, which Moscow now sees as a threat after it waged a war on Ukraine, labelling the expansion of NATO as "threat" to its own security.
