Stricken by Ukraine Crisis, Newfire expands to Costa Rica
American IT and software services provider Newfire Global Partners has expanded to Costa Rica, as its operations in Ukraine hit a roadblock following the Russian invasion. The Cambridge-based company announced that it had set aside US$5 million for its operations in Costa Rica. The Costa Rican team will support the company’s US clients in the digital health and educational technology sectors.
“The Costa Rican central time zone is ideal for real-time collaboration with our customers, most of whom are in the United States,” explained Stephen Hau, CEO of Newfire Global. Founded in 2016, Newfire is heavily dependent on Ukraine, where it runs four offices: three in Lviv and one in Ivano-Frankivsk. This is the company’s first expansion after the war in Ukraine began to disrupt its operations.
“We are honored that Newfire Global would choose our country for developing its first operation in Latin America,” commented CINDE, Costa Rica’s investment promotion agency.
